Inspiration Series: Lore's minimalist jungle

This week, we want to inspire you with the beautiful decor that Lore has created in her house in downtown Ghent, Belgium. Lore takes care of her plants full time and maintains a wonderful Instagram account, @min_lor, which has close to 15,000 subscribers. Check her out and you'll see why! Lore describes her style as minimalist despite his 80 plants of all sizes. Quality before quantity for this plant lover. The important thing is to create calm and relaxing spaces.

Lore, tell us, what books, magazines and websites have inspired you to create your decor?

Like everyone else, I would say that Pinterest is an endless source of inspiration. However, I also find inspiration in the arts, physical spaces, different materials, travel, etc. I am always looking for new ways to create a place to relax and unwind. For example, I am sometimes inspired when I look at our sea. Seeing the different colours come to life and the materials and colours blend into one image can inspire me to choose certain colours to incorporate into my home.

What approach did you take to create your decor? For example, did you start with the plants and then the decor or the other way around? Did you do one room at a time or the whole house at once? How long did it take you to get to where you are now? Do you consider your decor to be finished or an ongoing project?

Three years ago, my husband and I bought a house downtown. I started to decorate it and then (often simultaneously) added plants. I have always liked the fact that the rooms you spend most of your time in are more or less finished. After three years, we still have rooms to complete but we like to add and remove elements from time to time. In short, it's the project of a lifetime.

What are the key elements of your decor?

At first, I think it was the colour palette. I often combine grey, black, white, beige and plant green in my designs. I also like natural materials like marble, wood and velvet.

Would you like to share some tips and tricks or talk about your experience with people who want to create something similar in their home?

It may sound cliché, but it's so true: less is more! Don't exaggerate with the furniture, accessories and colours in a room. Try to create a dynamic flow with soft colours and try to combine different materials.

Let's talk about plants!

Are plants very important in your decor?

Yes! Extremely! This is where I may be different from other plant fans. I see plants as an added value to my decor. I use them to complete the ambience in my home. I believe that plants can add a new dimension to my furniture, fill empty spaces or just add life and interest to a room.

How many plants do you have?

I have about 80 different plants, from cuttings to fully developed plants.

How do you choose your plants? Are you looking for a particular variety or is it more a question of a crush? Perhaps you choose them according to their maintenance?

I always look at the type of plant first. For example, I am constantly looking for philodendrons in different plant shops. But it also happens that I fall in love with a plant even if I don't have a place to put it. Even though it is very difficult, I prefer to leave them in the shop, because I prefer to have plants that I can take good care of.

Where do you get your plant accessories? Do you prefer to choose them according to their effectiveness or their style?

I always choose my accessories for their style. They must match my decor! For example, the last pots I bought were from WOUD Pidestall and Zakkia. I love their shape and the materials they are made of.
